What’s in a name?
Apollo Pools, Inc. was founded in 1969 by a youthful and energetic entrepreneur, Luke Hertzog. The company was named “Apollo” by Mr. Hertzog’s first wife and her close friend. The ladies chose the name Apollo because of NASA’s Apollo Space Program, and because Apollo is also the Greek God of the Sun. What could be more appropriate! Today, Apollo Pools & Spas is still family owned and operated, and in our second generation.
Our first store location was in an old grocery store located in beautiful downtown Stony Creek Mills. That location is now a residence. All of our construction and retail sales took place here for many years – and we even built an indoor inground display pool inside the building – and it still exists today (empty and under a floor, though)!
From Pizza to Pools
In the early 1980’s we moved from the main office & showroom in Stony Creek to our present location at 3711 Perkiomen Ave. in Exeter Township. This location was a small pizza restaurant when we moved in complete with a pizza on the top of our sign. That pizza didn’t last long – we turned it into aswimming pool and later replaced it with the neon version of our logo still proudly standing in that position. The building has seen several major renovations since, and today is more than twice as large and we’ve added lots of warehouse space.
